Laguindingan Airport, Misamis Oriental

It was my first time to be at the Laguindingan Airport in Misamis Oriental, the gateway to the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro, and the rest of Northern Mindanao.About five years ago, I used to fly to Cagayan de Oro often for business trips but it was still via the old Lumbia Airport. Quite a memorable airport for me as I was stuck there during the time when Iligan (where I used to conduct training sessions) experienced a series of bombing in 2008. How can I ever forget that airport--there were more fighter planes than commercial flights. I was so damn nervous!!!

Moving forward, I was quite impressed at the spacious Laguindingan Airport. The aircon was working properly, and the transportation system was organized. The only con--if you're bound to Cagayan de Oro, you will find it farther than the old Lumbia airport. If you're going to Iligan, Laguindingan airport cuts the travel time by about half to an hour.

Staff at the check-in counters were efficient and professional enough, at least during the time when we were there. AirAsia's ground personnel were all-smiles on us.

At the second floor, right before we proceeded to the pre-departure area, were Kenny Rogers Roasters and Seattle's Best Coffee. Perfect as we didn't have breakfast yet. Prices and choices are decent.

When I was still researching about our CDO-Camiguin trip, I found this link (click here) very useful. I agree with the author when he said not all of us can afford to hire a taxi at rip-off rates of more than a thousand bucks to go to the city proper, so, shuttles like Magnum Express, LAX, and the like are very much helpful.

Out of these shuttle services, the only one I have tried was Magnum Express, which has a terminal just outside the arrival area, and which brings passengers straight to Limketkai Mall, where Travelers' Pod (our accommodation) is located.

Magnum Express' passenger lounge is quite impressive, too. It has seats and a cafe, clean restrooms, organized counters, and helpful staff. How I wish we have this kind of passenger lounge and terminal everywhere in the Philippines! Very convenient!

What I like most about Magnum Express is that it leaves on time and fare is affordable at Php 199 per person. Not bad for a clean, new, efficient, and convenient shuttle service!
