A Glimpse at Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu

A spectacular view of the Ibiza Beach Club, the resort's pristine shoreline, and its azure waters from one of the Premiere Ocean Front rooms
While the last quarter of the year has been catastrophic (my prayers go to those who have been affected by the magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Cebu and Bohol, as well as those who were badly hit by the super typhoon Haiyan/Yolanda in the provinces of Samar, Leyte, Antique, Iloilo and Northern Palawan), no amount of disaster would stop me from visiting the Visayas region over and over again. For me, the region's rich marine biodiversity, eye-catching natural wonders, and genuine hospitality remain unparalleled.

Just recently, I was so blessed to have revisited Cebu with the country's top food and travel bloggers. And our home for the weekend? No other than the newly-reopened Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu.

No more pink buildings (well, just one "pinkish" tower out there)
If you have been following my blog since my humble beginnings, chances are, you've seen my super rookie photoblog entry on Hilton Cebu Resort and Spa way back 2010. If by any chance you've missed it, click here. The property had undergone a total transformation and was re-branded as Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu. Its old signature pink buildings morphed into a refreshing contemporary hub perfect for business and leisure travelers alike.

Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu is a five-star beach front property located in Punta Engano Rd., Mactan, Cebu fronting the Hilutungan Channel. It is less than 30 minutes away from the Mactan International Airport and less than an hour away from the island of Olango.

Checking In
The hotel car picked me up from the Mactan International Airport and upon reaching the resort's driveway, I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff who then escorted me all the way to the front desk. Just like in any other five-star resort, I was handed a refreshing welcome drink, this time it was a sweet mango juice of which Cebu if known for. Check-in was efficient and fast.

Colourful seats await at the lobby
While waiting for the staff who would lead me to my room, I took the chance to roam around the new lobby. It was way different from three years ago. The vibrantly coloured furniture in the lobby give a younger, fresher look.

I should have brought my mat!
My Suite
When the staff had brought me to my room, I was so surprised to learn that I was upgraded to a one-bedroom suite! She said my room was still occupied so as courtesy, I was given a higher room category. How sweet, isn't it?

The 52sqm suite has a spacious living room area complete with a cosy L-shaped sofa, 42" LED television, a full mini bar and a personal fridge. There is also a private veranda which commands a nice view of Mactan and the Hilutungan Channel. Two beautiful paintings by Galan adorn the living room wall, and a stylish floor lamp completes the look.

The separate bedroom has a plush king-sized bed, a writing desk facing a huge glass window overlooking the sea, and a closet complete with a safety deposit box. There is an iPod dock and a 32" LED television so you could still watch your favorite show or listen to your preferred music even at bedtime. Complimentary high speed WiFi is also provided.

My favorite  part of the one bedroom suite is the bathroom. I love the intricately-designed round mirror and the rejuvenating Jacuzzi. There is also a separate glass-enclosed shower. Bathroom amenities are top of the line (Chopard it is!).

Daily turndown service is available, and as a sweet bonus, I've got to get two small bars of chocolates as my bedtime sweets every night. I love it.

Other Room Offerings
I, together with my blogger friends, were able to have a sneak peek at the other rooms available at Mövenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu. The rooms, just like the lobby, have been redesigned in line with the recent re-branding of the hotel.

Colours abound at the hallway
Deluxe and Premier Ocean Front Rooms
Elegantly furnished, the 32sqm deluxe ocean front room has all your basic needs: plush king- or twin-sized beds, a separate bath and shower, coffee- and tea-making facilities and a private balcony that commands an unhampered view of the ocean. The interiors have bright, perfectly combined colors that exude a youthful vibe.

Twin Deluxe Ocean Front Room
The premier ocean front is an upgraded version of its deluxe counterpart, only bigger at 35sqm. The amenities are pretty much the same as the deluxe.
