Review: Big Brother Condotel, Puerto Princesa, Palawan

The facade of Carlos Building

This post is may be a bit overdue already but i figured it would still be helpful to make a review of Big Brother Condotel in Puerto Princesa, Palawan since most reviews online are about its sibling property (the one on Manalo Street).

The Location
Big Brother Condotel is located along Puerto Princesa's busiest street, Rizal Avenue, and is conveniently nestled near fast food chains, mall, souvenir shops, and even the public market. How near? Just beside it is Chowking, in front is Jollibee and just a few steps away is McDonald's. The public market is a quick three-minute tricycle ride, and NCCC Mall on Lacao Street is just a few steps away. So, if you have an early call time for let's say Dos Palmas' day tour (bus is usually stationed at NCCC Mall), the location of this condotel is perfect for you.

The Room
We were seven adults and a toddler so we had decided to get a Stars Condo Unit priced at Php 2,500 per night. The rooms has a spacious floor area -- not the type where beds are squished together to fit as many as possible. There's ample space to move here. The unit has two double beds and a bunk bed that could fit three people. It is airconditioned with an extra fan for the bunk bed. The room is relatively new, so the walls are stark white still and the floors are polished well. The linens are clean and new, although the blankets can improve and be a bit thicker to shield against the cold temperature.

Two double beds

My only comment is that the flat TV could have been placed in a more strategic and convenient location. At present, the television is mounted above the doorframe leading to the kitchen so you could just imagine how uncomfortable is it to watch TV when you are already in bed. The doorframe by the way faces the two double beds. You need to exert much effort if you are on the bunk bed. Cable TV signal is also weak but tolerable.

The Stars Unit has a fully-equipped kitchen complete with an induction cooker, a microwave, rice cooker, plates, glasses, utensils and a refrigerator. Purified drinking water is also available at the main hallway, so you can just refill your water bottles there and no need to buy the 6-gallon thing.

The kitchen counter
For families or big groups like us, a kitchen is very important as it can also help you save on food cost. The condotel does not serve breakfast but with its proximity to the market, you can easily whipped up a hearty one at the confines of your own kitchen.

Balinsasayaw attack!
There is a small pool under construction that time, so it must be open by this time. Otherwise, guests can swim at their other property in Manalo Street (free of charge with free shuttle).

The Service
The staff  are friendly and efficient. When we were there, there was a city-wide blackout and so we couldn't cook our food using the induction  cooker and microwave. The staff voluntarily offered their butane stove which became a big help for us! They are also very prompt in attending to the guests needs -- be it an extra towel, making up the beds, and more.

Overall, our stay at the Big Brother Condotel is okay. For the price, it's worth it. It has a few cons but these are tolerable. The location is its best selling proposition!
