Asian Fusion Brunch Buffet at the Ibiza Beach Club

Seafood by the seaside overlooking the sea =)

We rounded up our trip to Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu with a fantabulous Asian Fusion Brunch Buffet at the Ibiza Beach Club indoor restaurant. The buffet boasts a panoply of flavors from Thailand, Japan, China, and beyond. A sweet bonus is a spectacular view of the sea from the floor to ceiling glass walls of the restaurant. Being a Thai and Japanese food lover, I was more than excited to try out the dishes here. As soon as I secured my seat (one that is near the glass panels for a nice view), I roamed around and checked out what's on offer.

Not Your Ordinary Salad Bar
If you're tired of the usual Caesar-potato-macaroni-Waldorf salad bar, then you'll definitely love this one. There's no lettuce-tossed-in-different-dressings here, but what you'll encounter is a fine selection of Asian-inspired salads that are worth trying out. Most of these salads have a tinge of spiciness for the Asian tongue, so it will definitely tease your palates from the first bite. My favorites are Cold Ramen Roasted Duck, Prawns, Mint, Peanuts and Beetroot, and the Barbecue Chicken Salad  with Grilled Corn and Spicy Pineapple. The two salads taste closer to the Filipino palate, while the rest have more of Korean and Thai flavors.

And by the way, there's a wide array of fine wines on offer at the Ibiza Beach Club. If you haven't read yet, the owner of the resort has his own line of premium wines, and an oenophile himself, so you can be assured that you can enjoy a pour or two of your favorite wines here. Make sure to ask the staff for the perfect wine pairing. You might be lucky to meet the dazzling Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island Cebu's F&B Manager, Daniel Trumpfheller.

Aside from premium wines, there's also a variety of cocktail concoctions and sparkling wines available. Yay, alcohol to kickstart the day!!!

There are no cold cuts and cheese sections here, but  you are sure to be delighted with a sumptuous array of starters. The Papaya, Apple, Marinated Dory, Cashew and Horseradish tastes like kinilaw (ceviche), only the fish is rather cooked than raw. The cured salmon is also good, although it should be a little colder in my opinion. The Korean Egg Roll with Smoked Salmon & Kimchi is a bit on the spicy side while the Guso and Tuna creates a Filipino take on the conventional tuna and nori maki. Guso is a kind of local seaweed and is a perfect alternative to nori.

Seafood Grill and Porchetta Carvery
I guess the most sinful stations at the Ibiza Beach Club's Asian Fusion Brunch Buffet are the seafood grill and the carvery. You can select the freshest catch of the day on a bed of ice, still plump and juices intact, and have it cooked the way you want it. I had my favorites of course -- crabs, scallops, squid, oysters, mussels, prawns, and clams. I had mine grilled outside, but told the staff not to overcook them so that they remain succulent and, well, sinful. I also got some wasabi mayonnaise dip for the prawns and squid. On my way to the grill, I saw the deadly Porchetta, lying perfectly on its carvery, with crisp skin and tender meat calling my name. That was WOW!

Roasted Duck and Dimsum Station
While most of the dishes here have a different spin, there's still the traditional dimsum and other Chinese favorites. I'm not a big fan of roasted duck so I wasn't able to try their version, but the Soy Chicken with Ginger Sauce and the Dried Chinese red BBQ Pork are delish! Plus, I love the Mushroom Dumpling and the Japanese Siomai dipped in soy-chili sauce.

Dessert Station
The dessert station may not be that expansive but I found some gems there. I love the Mango Cheese Cake, so there's no doubt I got a bunch of slices. It's not that sweet and the cheesecake is not crumbly, so it was perfect. The Panna Cotta is a lighter choice, though. If you want something very Filipino, try the Maja Ube. The Chocolate Profiteroles are delectable but sinful. It won't hurt to have a piece or two.

I ended up eating too much that I had to drink more sparkling wine in the end. The Asian Fusion Brunch Buffet at the Ibiza Beach Club will definitely knock you down so make sure you have enough tummy space before you go.
