Ati-Atihan Festival Hostel, Kalibo, Aklan
On our recent trip to Boracay, we flew in via Caticlan and flew out via AirAsia's new route, Kalibo-Clark. The early flight compelled us to stay in Kalibo for a night. It is a bit challenging to find a nice, budget-friendly accommodation in Kalibo as information over the net is scarce. It took me days of reading reviews on TripAdvisor and Girltalk before I came across the name Ati-Atihan Festival Hostel.
I emailed the address which I found on their FB page and in less than 12 hours, I already received a reply from Ms. Jacky Pelayo of the front desk. The family economy room for four pax costs Php 1,300 with free breakfast. Since we were five in the group, additional person is charged P100 plus P120 for set breakfast. Affordable!
The hotel is easy to locate as it is just a few steps away from the main highway. You can ask the bus or van driver to drop you off at the old water tank and they'll be happy to do so. It is also near the public market, Sto. Nino Church, Gaisano Mall, Ceres bus terminal and of course, the airport. One way tricycle fare from the hotel to the airport is Php 100 which can fit five pax.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Ms. Jackie has been answering my queries promptly through email and text. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff explained everything from the rates to the restaurant's operating hours, and eventually asked the bellboy to assist us on our way to our room. However, when we arrived at the family economy room in the main building, we noticed that the room smells like paint, and so I told the bellboy that they need to transfer us to another room or else we'll all die of suffocation. Efficient as he was, he called his manager and relayed the situation. What's good is that they upgraded our room to a family room for 6 pax at no additional cost. There, that's what you call excellent customer service!
The family room for six pax is on the new building, at the 2nd floor. It has 6 single beds with matching dressers that's perfect for a large family. The sheets are clean, and the mattresses are thick enough. Towels are well-maintained, too. Another good thing about this room is that it has two private shower rooms and a toilet. So, you need not worry about taking turns to shower. =)
The room also has a living room with a big television and a sofa; and a kitchenette with a fridge, sink and round dining table. Needless to say, the room is spacious. And when I asked how much is the original rate of this room, the front desk said it's Php 2,000. Not bad!
So obviously, if I'll be in Kalibo in the future, I'll stay at Ati-Atihan Festival Hostel again and again. Kudos!
